We previously discussed creating remarkable content, and why it’s so important to have a compelling narrative that will engage the reader enough to stick around and comment. The “sticky factor” of a blog post or website article is all about giving the reader a reason to return.
However, the best content in the world isn’t going to bring in readers if they don’t know the content exists. That’s why search engine placement is so important, from an inbound marketing perspective.
Like everything else that you do online, writing content starts with a plan. Think about the audience that you’re trying to reach. Pick a few keywords, and more importantly, two to three word phrases that will communicate the essence of your information. Then, include those keywords at a density of around three percent.
Optimizing your blogs for search and inbound marketing is more than just keywords. Meta elements within the blog page are also important. They are used to specify the page description, and keywords. Most CMS platforms (Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Hubspot etc.) offer input fields for meta elements either natively, or with plugins, when you create a blog post.
Additionally, many CMS platforms have free plugins available for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes and site mapping. Fill in a bit of information in the required fields, and you’re good to go.
Lastly, stay on top of industry trends. Search engine algorithms are constantly changing. What worked today in terms of an inbound marketing strategy and blog optimization might not tomorrow. For example, Google recently made significant changes to their ranking algorithms, which caused many, many sites to lose ranking.
