Online Marketing: A Systematic Process

Where to start? What should you do first? Well if we are talking about creating a new building most people would say you start with the foundation. Would that be the correct way?
WRONG! You should start with the plans!
If we are talking about building our businesses online most people would recommend doing something on Facebook. Would this be the correct way?
WRONG again! This too should start with the plans!
This post will outline what a comprehensive online marketing strategy consists of today.
Lets begin by asking a few simple buy important questions.
- Whom do you want to visit?
- Why do you think they might want to visit?
- How do you plan on greeting your special guests?
- What are you going to have for them when they arrive?
- How are you going to know if the right people are visiting?
- Where are most of them coming from?
- What invitations are working best?
- Are you going to make it casual, or require an RSVP?
Once you answer these questions you can start drawing up some plans. The seven elements that make up a comprehensive online marketing strategy are:
- Create remarkable content.
- Optimize that content so search engines find it.
- Promote with a lead nurturing campaign.
- Monitor social media outlets.
- Implement web analytics.
- Have a content management system.
- Tie it together with your customer relationship management system.
Future posts will cover all seven of the elements in detail.
We will start with how to create remarkable content.
What is remarkable content? Simply content that people will be apt to remark on. See Seth Godins famous Purple Cow example.
Use the four primary ways to engage people according to the Social Media Bible: Communicate, collaborate, educate or entertain. It can be one or all four, you have editorial license! Have fun with it! It can be something you write for your blog, something you video, or record audio. Infographics can be very useful and people enjoy them. Keep the reader in mind. Think about what your special guest is coming to your place for in the first place.
